  1. Wall and Room clearing

Take off everything from the wall and move out the furniture for the room. Make sure the room is clear, so nothing comes in the way during the wallpapering.

  1. Fix the faults

If the wall has any sort of imperfection like holes, cracks, roughness, or any other flaws, mend them with fillers. Use a scraper for applying filler. Let it dry, after drying use sandpaper to level the surface.

  1. Rinse off the walls

Add washing powder to water and prepare the mixture. Next, use this mixture and sponge and wash the wall to remove any dirt and oil sticks to the wall. Then, leave the wall for drying.

  1. Prime the walls

Finally, primer is spread over the wall. Primer is most important in wall preparations as it protects the wall. The purpose is it prevents the wall from absorbing the wallpaper’s glue. It also prevents wallpaper shrinkage. Also, it allows easy and damage-free removal later on.

2. Wallpaper Preparation and Installation

The second thing is wallpaper cutting, resizing, alignment, and finally hanging. The following steps show how to do it perfectly!

  1. Wall measurement

Measure the length and width of a wall using a measuring tape. Then draw a center point lengthwise.

  1. Wallpaper strips calculations

Now calculate the number of strips required for the wall. Calculate it by dividing the total width of the wall by the width of the wallpaper roll. If you finish up with a whole number of sheets, just don’t worry now, you will learn about it later how to overcome this in the wallpaper strips cutting step.

Tip: Roll out the complete wallpaper and check for misprint and other damage before use.

  1. Cut the first strip of wallpaper
Put the wallpaper on the table if the wallpaper has a pattern choose the starting pattern at the ceiling. Mark it on the back of the wallpaper, also mark the top and bottom of the paper so you don’t hang it upside down. Now cut the wallpaper but cut it 4 inches more at both ends than the actual length of the wall.
  2. Cut whole wallpaper strips
Next cut the whole strips using the first strip as a reference. Also, ensure that the pattern aligns and keep the length the same as first. Furthermore, keep the width of the whole strip 1/2 inch more than the measured width.
  3. Prepare your wallpaper

After cutting all strips, then next is wallpaper preparing in case of not pre-glued wallpaper. For pre-glued wallpaper, this step is not needed. Place the wallpaper strips with the upside-down face. Then apply the glue using a paint roller. Try to apply a thin and even layer of glue.  After it folds the edge of the wallpaper on the glue face so that they met each other at mid of paper.

Note: Apply the glue with care. In case any glue stick to the table removes it before the next strip preparing as it can damage the wallpaper.

3. Hanging strips to the wall

Add the first strip from the corner, from the chosen pattern at the ceiling, and then move to the bottom. Press the paper gently so it does not tear apart. Sweep the entire wallpaper inside out with smoother to remove the air bubbles and creases.

Likewise, then add the next strip adjacent to the previous with no gaps. Also, make sure the pattern line up with the preceding strip. Use a seam-roller to roll over the seams so that they are flattened. Then using fingers press the seams against each other so the gap fills.

4. Trim the excess

When one strip is pasted on the wall the extra length of the paper is then trimmed. Use the smoother to press the paper toward the ceiling, at the ceiling and wall joining point hold it and trim the paper with a razor or blade.

5. Wipe off the excess adhesive

Once all strips are hung on the wallpaper, again press all strips smoothing brush to make sure they are smoothened down well. It will also squeeze out the excess glue, then use a wet sponge and remove the glue.

  • How to Hang Wallpaper at Room Corners

Hang the whole wallpaper strip on the corner of a room. Now smoothen the paper making sure half of an inch is on the adjacent wall. Make a crease at the corner with a smoothing brush, then cut using a utility knife or razor.

  • Hanging Wallpaper  at Window or Door

The paper around the door or window is like wallpapering around the room corner. Just paper as normal around the door or window when you reach there. If wallpaper is overlapping the window or door let it be. After the strip is glued then crease the edges of wallpaper around the window and door and next simply trim the extra. Make sure to add relief cut if the wallpaper is covering half window or door and half wall.

  • Wallpaper Fixing and Installation Around The Switches or Holes

Wallpaper over the hole or switch during papering. Then cut the wallpaper in a cross with a razor over the switch or hole. Next crease the edges and trim the flaps around the switch or hole.
