Types of Paint for Different Surfaces

So, therefore before selecting the paint you must have knowledge about different types of paint and their application areas. As some paints are specifically for exterior walls and others are for interior, some suits bathroom, and kitchen walls while others don’t. Similarly, there is specially formulated epoxy paint for the floor.

Each type has its own qualities along with some cons. This article is all about types of paint for different surfaces and their pros and cons.

1.      Matte Finish/ Flat Paint

This type of paint is only suitable for home interior walls but still not for all walls. As this paint is hard to clean so it is not recommended for washrooms, kitchens, and specifically for kid’s rooms. Flat paints are not glossy and don’t reflect the light therefore are the best paint to hide wall imperfection. In fact, it is regarded as a paint concealer. Also, it is the cheaper paint with good coverage. However,  their durability is medium. Matte paints are suggested for low traffic areas, like bedrooms and guest rooms.

Summary:

Pros:

  • Excellent coverage
  • Hide wall damages
  • Cheap

Cons:

  • Less durable
  • Non-cleanable

2.      Textured Paint

This is a thick, condensed paint with granules in it. The granule and its condensed nature are used to add texture to walls. It gives an appealing touch to walls and hides their imperfections.  Such paints feature brick, metallic and soft fabric texture to your walls. Further, it is a very trendy paint and is only used for home interior painting. Moreover, it is ideal for Bedrooms, ceilings, dining rooms.

Summary:

Therefore, it is the best interior paint type of all at an affordable price.  It suits all interior walls whether high traffic or low traffic. Satin paint has glossy touch compared to flat paints but is less sheen than eggshell paints. Furthermore, satin paint is not a good concealer rather it highlights the wall imperfection and brush strokes.

Summary:

Pros:

  • Good longevity
  • Good coverage
  • Easy maintenance
  •  Easy to paint
  • Affordable price
  • Perfect for all interior walls

Cons:

Also, it is the best choice for other walls too. Further, its shine range is between matte paints and satin paints. However, it has some advantages over them such as it more durable, glossy. Unlike satin paint, it hides the wall damages and flaws.

Summary:

Pros:

  • Easy cleanable
  • Highly durable
  • Soft gloss
  • Conceal wall imperfection
  • Excellent coverage

Cons:

  • Not an Exterior paint

5.      Semi-gloss Paint

Semi-gloss has shiny touch, reflective, extremely durable, and is moderately resistant to moisture. Its moist resistance makes it a very good choice for the bathroom and kitchen. Also, the reflective nature makes the small space look bigger. Further, it is applicable for both interior and exterior painting. It’s super easy to clean and wash thus apt for kids’ rooms. If you are using two hues in a single room, such paint is a great choice as it compliments each other colors. However, there is one con it highlights the wall flaws and brush strokes.

  • Extremely  Durability
  • Moist resistance

Cons:

6.      High-gloss Paint

This paint due to its reflective nature reveals imperfections and brushstrokes more prominently than other types. Therefore, it is not ideal for interior or exterior walls despite its excellence.
